Introduction

"It's Family It's Harmony" is a project co-organized by District Rotaract Committee in Rotary International District 3450 (Hong Kong, Macau, Mongolia) and Harmony House, which will be involved by more than 500 participants from the Rotary Family.

Background

According to the Social Welfare Department and Harmony House, the reported cases of family violence increased sharply in this 3 years.

To show our care and support to the victims of family violence, Rotaract District Committee was decided to organize a District Service Project with the 27 Rotaract Clubs in Hong Kong.

Project Objective

  • To arouse the concern of domestic violence issues in order to improve family cohesiveness in Hong Kong
  • To raise fund for the operation cost of ¡¥Harmony Express¡¦ which is a mobile educational vehicle. It will drive around high-risk district of domestic violence to educate primary school children on domestic violence issues. We target to raise fund for the operation cost of ¡§Harmony Express¡¨ for 5 years
  • To increase publicity of Rotary, Rotaract and Harmony House

    Co-organizing Organization - Harmony House

The Harmony House is a non profit-making organization. It was established in 1985 when its first service - the Shelter came into operation. The main objective of the Harmony House is to stop domestic violence and promote harmony in the family.
The Community Education and Resource Centre was therefore initiated in 1992 to convey stop domestic violence messages to the community. The 3rd Path Man Services and Seeds of Hope - Crisis Intervention Team for Domestic Violence in hospitals also commenced service in 2000 and 2001 respectively.

    Project Plan

The project will be divided into 3 stages, which include a drawing competition, star collection and the closing Ceremony.

    Stage 1: Drawing Competition

The main objective of the drawing competition is to increase the awareness of family violence among the students of primary and secondary school in Hong Kong.

To recognize the efforts of applicants and raise fund for Harmony Express, 12 pictures out of 400 applicants has been chosen by Miss Mak Ka Pi to produce calendar for charity sales in Hong Kong and Macau.

    Stage 2: Stars collection

To show our care and support to the victims of family violence, over 100 volunteers will ask the pedestrians to fold stars by paper strips in 10 public areas on ¡§Stars Collection Day (22 January 2006). We have also invited the ex-eco of Hospital Authority, Dr. Ko Wing Man, to be the Harmony Ambassadors in order to raise public awareness of the project.

    Stage 3: Closing Ceremony

The Closing ceremony will be held in shopping mall on 26 February 2006. During the closing ceremony, Harmony Express will also be parked in the shopping mall to promote family violence to the public.

    Fund raising methods

The fund raising method of the project will included sponsorship from corporate, major donors, public and Rotary Clubs in Hong Kong.
