¡@ Words from Vice President - Joyce Siu

Happy New Year! It is a privilege to write the Vice President¡¦s Message on our 2nd quarterly newsletter.

While you are planning for your new start of 2006, the club has been exerting all its best effort on completing part of its meaningful projects.

Looking back on the past half year, the Rotaract club of Macau had elaborated a plan of activities which involved all the four avenues of service, like the Goodwill Ambassador to Australia, Visit to Guangxi schools, Asia Pacific Regional Rotaract Conference (APPRC) to Taiwan, the Macau Camp, Shooting Competition, etc.

As the Vice President of the club this year, I¡¦m so glad to witness the step-by-step achievement of our goal and the success of each project. I believe ¡§Team Spirit¡¨ is the ultimate source of a club¡¦s success. And we got it!

¡@

Yours ever in Rotaract,
Joyce Siu
Vice President 2005-2006

GWA Sydney, Australia - Luke Lei

¡@

¡§ In just a week¡¦s time, we (a group of 10- Joyce, Miranda, Luke, William, Stephen, Teresa, Carita and I) have enriched our lives that are filled with happiness and lots of nice people.

We¡¦ve achieved our goals of broadening our members and ambassadors¡¦ vision through cultural exchange like attending a Citizenship Ceremony & visiting the Opera House.

In reverse, we¡¦ve enriched some Aussie minorities and youngster¡¦s life through participating in a District Community Service Program and raising fund for them. Lastly and most importantly, but not the least, we have made lots of friends that make this trip an unforgettable journey to me!¡¨

- Raymond Lo, President 2005-2006

One of the most important activities of the International Services of Rotaract Club of Macau, Goodwill Ambassador 2005 was held again last month aimed for cultural exchange and Macau promotion in Sydney, Australia. A group of four (Carita Ma, Teresa Fong, Stephen Lo & William Cheong) was selected as Macau Goodwill Ambassadors through a process of Report writing, Group Interview & Final Presentation, visited Sydney on 21~27 Oct, accompanied by 2 Macau Rotarians & 4 Rotaractors.

Day 1 (21 Oct)

10 of us were welcomed at the airport by Ms. Sharyn Aiken, President, Rotary Club of Sydney CBD and Mr. Ngo. A warm refreshing snack was offered at Sharyn¡¦s house. After recharging our exhausted bodies, we were driven to visit the Manly Harbour, North Head of Sydney & one of the most famous beach- Palm Beach at the afternoon. At night, we were transferred to our hosting family separately.

¡@

Day 2 (22 Oct)

We were invited to join the Rotaract Club of Sydney City in their fundraising day in Coogee Bowling Club. The fund raised would be used to sponsor some families with mental disable members. It is also the first time for our Macau team members playing the Lawn Bowling.
¡@

Day 3 (23 Oct)

A city tour was organized by the Sydney City Rotaractors; we were taken for social outing around the city. We visited the Rocks Market, Darling Harbor, Paddy¡¦s Market, China Town, and other famous sightseeing spots.

¡@

Day 4 (24 Oct)

When talking about Sydney, everybody must have a thought of Kangaroos and Koalas, the national animals of Sydney. In the morning time, we had a chance to visit the Koala Park at Castle Hill. In there, we spent a great time with lots of famous Australian animals: Kangaroos, Koalas, Wombat, Echidna, etc.

At night, it was really our honor to be invited to join the Citizenship Dinner Meeting of Rotary Club of Sydney CBD (Central Business District). Such a warm and touching moment was made that 11 of new Australia Citizens was affirmed by Australian Citizen, at the meeting.

" As an Australian citizen, I affirm my loyalty to Australia and its people, whose democratic beliefs I share, whose rights and liberties I respect, and whose laws I uphold and obey.¡¨
- Affirmation Speech by Australian Citizen

¡@

Day 5 (25 Oct)

What do people think about when talk about foods in Australia? Fresh juicy oysters that would be the answer of we all. After having a rich seafood lunch at Fresh Market, we all were energetic thoroughly to start our adventureful Bridge Climbing, sponsored by Rotary Club of Sydney Cove. On the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge, after the refreshing shower, we blessedly enjoyed the Double Rainbow.

¡@

Day 6 (26 Oct)

We had a free time in the daytime. At night, we attended the regular meeting of Rotaract Club of Sydney City, where Club presentation and Macau presentation were given to Rotaractors and Rotarians from the city clubs.

¡@

Day 7 (27 Oct)

9 early birds (Stella stayed behind) took early flight back to their home, with exhausted but joyful heart.
